Is proofreading allowed by universities?

I get this question a lot: is it legal and/or ethical to get my document proofread? Will I get in to trouble with my university?

The answer is yes, it is allowed! I am genuinely surprised that people dont know this or think that it is cheating! Due to the lack of academic and writing support at most universities many students may need to resort to a proofreading service, and there is no shame in that.

Over the last 10 years of running my business I have become very familiar with what is and what is not allowed by universities in terms of proofreading – contact me today for a quote, safe in the assurance that I work within academic guidelines.

A fairly unknown benefit of proofreading is that a proofreader (me especially) leaves comments on common mistakes that a client makes, along with a final comment with general writing tips. So in a way I act a “bit” like a writing tutor, which is something that isn’t widely advertised or commonly known.

Due to the lowering of IELTS scores to get in to UK and Irish universities there will always be a demand for an academic proofreader and editor.
