Today with the advent of ChatGPT and other tools it may seem that it’s not worth using a proofreading service.
In this blog I look why I think proofreading still has a place.
It’s about the intangibles really.
Sure, some AI can pick up the big picture issues, but what about the nuances? I see a proofreading service these days as more of a personalised writing tutor service. Clients actually learn what mistakes they are writing and why they are making them, making them better writers who get better marks.
Plus there is the very real element of emotional support. So what if AI can correct lots of the grammar and spelling mistakes? Is it there to reassure you and be a neutral, human third party who can support you academically? I don’t think so.
There is something very affirming about having a caring, experienced human going through your work and pointing out errors and gaps.
